Professor in the Department of Environmental Protection at Warsaw University of Life Sciences. Head of the Sustainable Development and Technology Studies in the Department of Environmental Protection. Specializes in environmental management and impact assessment, environmental and climate policies and regional sustainable development. Author of more than 350 publications.
For over 25 years professor Karaczun has been actively working with NGOs in the field of ecology, climate mitigation and energy transition. He is the co-founder and Vice-President of the Polish Ecological Club and the co-founder and expert of the Climate Coalition – a network of 24 non-governmental organizations. In the period 1996-2000 he was the director of Climate Action Network Central and Eastern Europe. In the years 1998-2002 he was an advisor on European integration to the Polish Minister of the Environment. In the process of Poland’s accession to EU he co-authored the Polish negotiating position in the area of Environment and shared his expertise in the negotiations on the conditions of state aid to businesses.
